An individual earned a substantial sum by predicting the removal of the Venezuelan leader just before it was publicly declared, sparking debate about potential gains made from inside knowledge of American actions.

Market Movement in Forecasts

Bets placed on the crypto-platform, a crypto-powered platform, that the Venezuelan president would be out of power by the month's conclusion rose in the period preceding former President Trump declared on the weekend that the Venezuelan leader had been seized.

A single trader, which registered on the site in December and took four positions, all on political events in Venezuela, earned over $nearly half a million from a initial bet of over $32,000.

The identity is unknown. The user had only a blockchain identifier for identification.

Market Signals Before Announcement

Market statistics shows that users estimated the likelihood of the president's removal at just under 7% in the midday period of Friday, January 2nd.

However these probabilities had jumped to over 10% by shortly before midnight and spiked dramatically in the first hours of Saturday, pointing to a sudden change in positions right before the social media post was made.

"This specific wager has all the signs of a transaction based on inside information," commented a financial reform advocate.

A company executive for Kalshi said their site "explicitly prohibits such activities of any form."
