A 60-day voyage around the Land Down Under has been cancelled days after the fatal incident of an senior woman who was left behind by the ship on a distant coastal location.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the vessel, but broke off from the excursion for a pause. The ship sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the crew realised the passenger was missing.

An extensive search operation located her person the following day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Head of the cruise operator stated that guests and personnel on the vessel were informed that the continuation of the journey had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he added that passengers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to arrange the return journeys of the passengers via chartered flights".

Authorities also published an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Captain" prohibiting any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The representative said that they would visit the ship in Cairns upon its arrival.

The vessel initially left the Australian port on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the moment of the senior passenger's passing. The tropical location was the opening port on the journey.

Guests on the vessel - who generally pay substantial amounts of money to take part in the voyage - were taken there for a shore visit with the choice of trekking or snorkelling.

Family Response

The offspring of the victim said that her loved ones was "stunned and distressed that the ship left the island after an organised tour without my mother".

In her statement, she characterized her mum as an "vigorous 80-year-old" who was a member of a bushwalking club.

"From the little details we have been told, it appears that there was a failure of attention and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She added that she hoped the examination would be able to pinpoint what "the organization should have performed that might have saved Her being".

"Based on information from the investigators that it was a very hot afternoon, and she became unwell on the uphill trek," she stated.

"They requested her to head down, unescorted. Then the boat departed, seemingly without doing a headcount.

"At a certain moment in that sequence, or shortly after, mother passed away, without company."

Company Reaction

Via official communication, the CEO affirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with authorities to assist their investigation".

He mentioned that the firm was "very regretful that this has happened" and had offered its complete assistance to the relatives.

The liner caters for up to a hundred twenty travelers with 46 staff, according to company information. It was specially constructed to enter isolated locations of Australia's coastline and is outfitted with "auxiliary vessels" - small boats used to take travelers on day excursions.
